In this mythical city called New York of over 8,000,000 wandering souls, this tiny corner of the vast tangled world wide web we weave will share my New York via my eyes. You are also encouraged to share your photographs should you so please because after all, mynewyork is also yournewyork and i'm sure you love ournewyork as much as I do. -Citizen NYC

Stop Complaining About The Blizzard Clean Up, newyorkers!
At least that's what the Daily News is telling us. After one of the largest snow storms in New York City, the city is still digging itself out. Metro North is finally running on regular schedule as of today but many side streets remain untouched.
Sound off, mynewyork - are you mad as hell or are you satisfied with the efforts so far? Maybe you simply don't give a shit like many Manhattanites since they don't travel too far unless they work outside the island.

Make sure to watch it in HD!
Special thanks goes to Derrick Kardos, fellow newyorker of Manhattan, who suggested the beautiful song, "Amid the Falling Snow" by Enya. Enjoy!

Homeless newyorkers
Count your blessings, fellow newyorkers during the coming blizzard...thousands of our fellow newyorkers don't have a home to protect them from the elements. They will have to make do wherever they can find a place to camp whether a homeless shelter or underground in our subways.
Bundle up because the weather outside is frightful!

A Quieter Subway Ride
Coming soon to a subway car near you--the loss of the Train of Thought series of quotes that have enlightened the masses. For as long as this newyorker can remember, I have been enjoying the plethora of quotes amidst the cacophony of ads, carefully placed betwixt the promises of clearer skin by Doctor Zizmor and the guarantees of learning English by Zoni Language Center.
On some of the most stressful days I rode the 2 train soaring down 7th Avenue besides Kafka, Dickinson and Eliot. Now, thanks to the MTA's new promotional campaign touting the new electronic timetables at subway stations-which now annoyingly let us know how less frequently the trains run due to service cuts-Train of Thought will be no more.
Thanks, MTA, for increasing fares, cutting service and making us dumber.

Staten Island - The "Other" Borough. Where Are You SI?!
So, Staten Island - WHAT are you? We want to know. Staten Island is to New York City what New Jersey is to the Tri-State Region. The butt of endless jokes. What do we really know about our southern neighbors? The image that I put together above is pretty much what, most of us not familiar with Staten Island, know about the place. We know there's a huge landfill; you can't take a subway there but you can ride the ferry for free to get there; and finally the New York City Marathon starts there.
Besides that and the fact that Staten Islanders seem to have much more in common with Jersey (yuk) than the rest of newyorkers we don't know much.
So now this is YOUR time to tell us WHO you are, WHAT is Staten Island about. We want to know what makes you tick. What grinds your gears...WHERE do you like to eat or have fun? Most of all we want to know WHY Staten Island?
Contact us at citizennyc1@gmail.com or go to our official page on Facebook and sound off!

What's Wrong With This Picture
Typical Friday night? Bunch of newyorkers on the train standing casually as if nothing is wrong. Gotta love this great city of ours. No we're not cruel and jaded - work just know the difference between dead and alive.

New York City's Mosaic Is Getting Duller?
Just like the mosaic above called "One Race, One World, One Universe" is created by thousands of different colors and hues to paint a picture and show a story, so do the diverse people of New York City create a bright, colorful tapestry of this wonderful city we live in. Let's face it, where else can you visit different lands, experience foreign cultures, taste exotic foods for a mere $2.25? (Soon to be $2.50 - thanks, MTA for forgetting the lube before bending us over for the latest and most vicious fare hike.)
But according to new census data released on Tuesday and reported by the New York Times, some areas of the city have lost large numbers of Hispanic and Black populations as a result of gentrification. The trend, however, seems to be the opposite in the 'burbs as they have had a huge increase in ethnically diverse residents.
What do YOU think, my fellow newyorkers? Has your neighborhood gone through "the change"?
Oh and if you're interested in seeing the mosaic artwork above in person, just hop on the 2 and 5 trains to 3rd Avenue / 149th Street in the Bronx neighborhood of Melrose and take a look around the platform. Feel free to take a walk around the neighborhood and treat yourself to one of dozens of diverse Latin American restaurants within blocks of the station. Melrose is home to the largest concentration of Puerto Ricans in a congressional district of the United States, however, as times and neighborhoods change, you can now find amazing and authentic home cooked Mexican fare, Salvadoran and Ecuadorian alongside the longer established Puerto Rican and Dominican restaurants.

The Devil Wears Espada
Outgoing State Senator Pedro Espada, Jr (or Joe Pesci's stunt double as newyorker, Rene, likes to refer to him as) has finally been indicted for being the infamous crooked politician from the Bronx that he is.
Maybe we can eventually liberate the Bronx from all these political low lives. Our Northernmost borough can sure breathe a sigh of relief tonight. Kudos to the Bronx!

Wal-Mart in NYC? What do YOU think?
So Wal-Mart is yet again trying to wrestle its way into the New York City market and this time it's armed and dangerous. It has tried in the past only to be defeated by newyorkers and politicians who don't necessarily agree with the superstore's labor practices.
Now we have to examine the situation and see what to do? Which pill do we swallow? Do we bite our nose to spite our face and say no to Wal-Mart and lose thousands of jobs in this shitty economy? Or do we set our ethics aside and let Wal-Mart establish a superstore in each of the five boroughs and provide much needed employment to our citizens.
What say you, my fellow newyorkers? YES or NO to Wal-Mart and why?

An End To Another Gritty NYC Institution
So it has come to pass that luck has run out at the Winners' Circle. As of this past Tuesday, all New York City OTB locations have been shuttered. Off Track Betting have often been the butt of jokes in NYC with their less than savory branches.
OTB patrons by and large are mostly middle aged men who spend copious amounts of time, and money, to the point that you would think these locations were homeless shelter. This newyorker had the unpleasant opportunity of working next to one in midtown on 7th Avenue and I often confused their customers with beggars and panhandlers.
OTB closed in NYC? I'll drink to that.

John Lennon - A newyorker Through and Through
30 years ago the life of not just a newyorker, but a citizen of the world, was cut short. We lost not a musician, not an artist; we lost an extraordinary human being. To this day he still teaches us to imagine , something children do but somehow we forget as we age. Let us remember to never forget to IMAGINE .

929 - New Area Code For New York City
Seems like newyorkers are getting area code #6 when 929 is introduced on April 16, 2011. The area code will be for all the "outer" boroughs of The Bronx, Brookly, Queens and Staten Island. Apparently Manhattanites won't need another area code just yet. Remember that, Gaga, when you call your little monsters in New York City.

True Friends Disagree With You
newyorkers are VERY opinionated. So much that they will scrawl their thoughts on any surface. Although tags and graffiti are often frowned upon, much humor, wit and words to live by can be found on city walls, sidewalks and ceilings... share with us the best tags, graffiti etc you've come across.

Grand Central Station Beauty #architecture
Sometimes I jump on a train to Grand Central and just take in the beauty of this architectural gem.
And to think if it weren't for newyorker, Jackie O, this beauty may have met the same fate that the Old Penn Station met when it was demolished to build the atrocious Madison Square Garden.
